Product Flow Testing
Working through an affiliate, Joe Marinelli of Solids Handling Technologies, your product can be tested for its specific flow characteristics.  With defined flow properties, we can produce dry bulk storage silos with predictable and reliable flow, even for hard to flow products.

Your product testing is conducted on a shear tester, allowing SHT to predict material flow properties as they pertain to tanks and hoppers.  They measure the cohesive strength of a solid to determine the opening required to prevent arching and rat-holing.  Additionally, they measure the wall friction values to determine the required hopper slope for functional mass flow.

Flow testing leads to the following results:

  • Recommended hopper slope

  • Recommended tank outlet size and/or configurations

  • Passive flow device recommendations

  • Material of construction and surface finish

  • Recommended tank interior coatings

Based on industry experience and pertinent information generated by material testing, the Tank Connection can incorporate the following SOLUTIONS into your tank design:

  • Functional mass flow (FIFO) discharge from the storage tank

  • Minimized product degradation during fill, stored mode and discharge

  • Minimized product segregation during discharge

Through product testing we provide specific recommendations to your material handling system, not guesswork.

Passive Flow Controls
We offer a wide range of passive flow controls to discharge various materials from the tank into the process stream.  This includes:

  • Chisel hopper transitions

  • Expanded Flow Transitions

  • Let down ladders

  • Blending tubes & blend tanks

  • Inverted hopper cones

  • Anti-segregation pipes & assemblies

  • Process steam splitters
